Code of Conduct
When students exhibit inappropriate heavier, disciplinary action will be taken as per the Chicago Public Schools Uniform Discipline Code (UDC). Click here to read about the UDC and/or see Mr. Liggins at the school for more information about the policies.
Discipline
Every staff member at Burr School accepts responsibility for the maintenance of discipline and for the promotion of a program for the development of wholesome relations. A student's behavior should conform to acceptable standards of conduct as established by the principal and teachers.

To provide a safe educational environment conducive to learning, we stress three points:
- Every child has the right to learn.
- Every teacher has the right to teach.
- No child has the right to stop the teacher from teaching or to prevent children from learning.
The staff requests parental support in helping maintain appropriate conduct in school. Children's behavior should reflect self respect and consideration for the rights, feelings, and property of others.
Search and Seizure
Designated school officials and the personnel of the Bureau of Safety and Security are authorized to conduct searches of students and their personal effects, to conduct metal detector screenings of students, and to seize any contraband that is revealed through such searches. The purpose of these searches is to provide a proper educational environment for students by maintaining order and discipline in the schools.
All persons entering the building are subject to personal search and examinations of their hand-carried possessions.
