Our Beloved Colleague

We are all shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Bianca Avitia, a kindergarten teacher at Jonathan Burr Elementary School.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.  Over her teaching career, Ms. Avitia gave selflessly to the City of Chicago and our children.  In the days, weeks and months ahead, we should all rely on each other to continue the critical work of educating our children to which Ms. Avitia was so dedicated.

Running Away Partnership

Jonathan Burr School is a culturally diverse magnet cluster school located in the heart of Bucktown offering Japanese to all of our students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  Our mission, at Burr, is to offer a well-rounded and professionally administered curriculum that will provide academic achievement, ensuring excellence and future success of all students.  With the aid of parental and community partnerships, Burr Brings Out the Best.

We are currnetly celebrating our third year of partnership with Running Away Multisports.  In each of the three years, our Burr community has participated in the 5K race.  Two of our teachers, Ms. Pattis and Ms. Dasso, ran in the race and of course our parents, students, and teachers have volunteered at various stations along the route.

Our entire school community is excited and thankful to be the annual recipients of a $5,000 donation from the proceeds of the 5K race.  Running Away Multisports has also graciously donated sports wear for our young ladies who are participating in Girls on the Run.  Thank you Running Away Multisports for helping Burr to Bring Out the Best.
